Dr. John Sarbak, a Vero Beach plastic surgeon, offers patients an effective way to look younger through the facelift procedure.
Vero Beach, FL – At his Vero Beach plastic surgery practice, Dr. John Sarbak offers a variety of ways to combat the aging process, the most dramatic being the facelift. During initial patient consultations, he helps patients determine their facial rejuvenation goals, and then presents them with several options–all of which help tighten and prevent loose skin before surgery is inevitable:
- BOTOX® Cosmetic to address wrinkles and correct volume
- Filler treatments such as Restylane®, Juvederm®, and Sculptra®
- Laser and skin resurfacing treatments to delay need for surgery
- Combination of the facelift and above procedures
While there are many non-invasive treatments provided by plastic surgeons, Dr. Sarbak admits that his patients’ facial aesthetic will naturally evolve to a point where surgical intervention is necessary to reach their cosmetic enhancement goals. At this point where the face and neck develop loose skin beyond the scope of laser and filler treatments, Dr. Sarbak will consider facial surgery, jowl formation, and/or neck bands, depending on the individual.
Each facelift patient at Dr. Sarbak’s practice receives a surgery tailored to their particular anatomic concerns. To select one of his seven types of facelifts, he first examines patient characteristics such as skin thickness, wrinkle patterns, pigmentation, volume deficits, bony facial shape, muscle function, and inherent facial asymmetries. This allows him to formulate an individualized plan to achieve the desired results.
The process begins before the procedure, where the Vero Beach plastic surgeon recommends skin conditioning with products such as NIA24® and Obagi®, which can be continued post-surgery. His patients then undergo preoperative laboratory testing consistent with their age and overall medical health. This health status is then reviewed by a board-certified anesthesiologist who will speak to them before the procedure.
Regarding recovery, most of his facelift patients stay overnight in a private room with their own nurse and see Dr. Sarbak the next day. Bruising can usually be expected to last anywhere from five to 14 days. Dr. Sarbak removes the sutures one week following the procedure, and patients can generally expect to start seeing results within seven to 14 days. However, as Dr. Sarbak says, “I don’t generally recommend the Governor’s Ball for six weeks.” Three months following the procedure, many of his patients will undergo fractional CO2 laser resurfacing to minimize scarring, possibly returning for a second treatment for optimum results.
Dr. Sarbak says many patients will also have other areas addressed, such as the neck, eyelids, and brow. His practice also performs fat grafting on a nearly universal basis, which helps restore areas of volume loss and can improve skin texture over time. Even areas such as the nose and ears are occasionally added to Dr. Sarbak’s comprehensive approach to the facelift.
